His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Ludington, (and relict of _Machine,) from whom the Chamberlaynes, of Maugersbury, are descended. Sir Thomas Chamberlayne, of Presbury, who married three wives first, Anne Vander-Zenney, of the house of Nassau, in the Low Countries. John, his son, by the daughter of _Elton, was father of John who espoused Agnes, daughter of _Keynes, and was father of William, who married Elizabeth, daughter of _Fleming, of Dartmouth by whom he had issue. He married Alice, the daughter of Bensted, and had issue Thomas, whose wife was the daughter of _Kniston. John Chamberlayne, of Hopton, in Dsirerbyshire, Esq (second son of Sir Richard, before mentioned,) continued the line. Chamberlayne, Esq was late High-Sheriff of the county of Essex and married Sarah, daughter and heir of Jeffery Stanes, Esq of Ryes, in Essex, by whom he has only one son, Stanes Chamberlayne. The youngest daughter married the Lord Abergavenny.įrancis Chamberlayn Esq late Member of Parliament for New Shoreham, and Richard Chamberlayne, Esq of Princethorpe, in Warwickshire, were descended from this branch of the Chamberlaynes. The eldest married, first, Sir Thomas Gage, of Firle, in Sussex, Bart, secondly, Sir William Goring, of Burton, in the same county, Bart. when John Chamberlayne, Esq the last of that branch, died, leaving two daughters, his coheirs. was father of Sir Richard, John, of whom hereafter, and several other children whereof Sir Richard settled at Sherborne, in Oxfordshire, where his posterity continuted till the reign of King James I. his son, took to wife Jane, daughter and heir of John Mortein, son and heir of Sir John Mortein, (of an ancient knightly family,) by the heir of Ekney, and had issue Sir Richard, who by Jane, daughter of Sir John Reyns, of Clifton Reyns, Knt. Sir Robert, whose wife was a daughter of _Griffith, of Northamptonshire. Sir Richard, who married Jane, daughter and heir of John Gatesden, by whom he had issue Robert Chamberlayne his son, was father of He had taken prisoner Robert de Bellemont, Earl of Millain in Normandy, and Earl of Leicester in England, commonly called Blanchmaines, who had taken part with young King Henry, against his father. William, his son, Lord of North Riston, was Lord Chamberlain to Henry II. ![]() Richard, his son, was Lord Chamberlain to King Stephen, and thereupon assumed the sirname (sic) of Chamberlain. ![]() John de Tankerville was a younger son of the former Earl, and was Lord Chamberlain to King Henry I. This ancient family is descended from William, Count Tankerville, of Tankerville-Castle, in Normandy, who came into England with William the Conqueror, but returned again into Normandy.
